According to reports, Queen Elizabeth II, who reigned for 70 years and was the longest-serving British monarch, has died. She was 96. Her eldest son, Charles, will now reign as king.
“The queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon,” the royal family reportedly said in a statement. “The king and the queen consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor is survived by her other children, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. Also, her passing puts Prince William next in line to the throne.
Plans are in the works for King Charles III, who will deliver a speech to the nation in the aftermath of her death today.
